Everything is better in pairs

Whether you love to travel or enjoy watching movies, if there’s something we can be sure of, it’s that we all enjoy sharing what we love with someone, whoever it may be. The joy of laughing or talking about your most profound issues with that special person usually has an energizing effect; moreover, it is an excellent opportunity to create bonds that will last a lifetime What is the thing you like to do the most? Can you imagine doing it with your partner? Every time we think of activities with our date, an endless number of things come to mind, from going for a coffee or some churros in Coyoacán, to taking a trip to Paris. Well, if we’re talking about having a good time, here are some ideas that you might not have considered To begin with, we need to think about our lifestyle: do we love adventure, or are we the stay-at-home type? Either way, there is always an option. For those on a budget and those who want to experience a different kind of weekend, we suggest a weekend in an elegant hotel near the city’s most touristy spots. It sounds like a joke, but even while living in Mexico City, many of us have not taken the time to visit the most popular sites in the historic center, nor have we walked through the most popular parks. Staying in a hotel for the weekend is perfect because not only do we feel a break from the routine, but we are pampered with a clean room and amenities such as swimming pools and bars. Another «ordinary» but entertaining activity is to find a bar or restaurant with the best view of the city. You will experience a change of perspective and get to enjoy great drinks or taste new dishes. Hotels, including ours, have this option for those who only want to spend a lovely afternoon watching the sunset. If we can picture a different kind of daily activity, we will always choose a visit to a magical town, and in Mexico, there are plenty of them. There is nothing better than walking the streets, meeting the people, tasting a local mezcal, and ending up in a restaurant listening to regional music. As always, options vary depending on your tastes. You can create a list of your favorite places with your partner and choose one to visit first, so get creative! We believe that the experience goes beyond simply going to a specific place; planning it with your partner also brings many ideas. It all starts with the desire to share something, and the rest may already be extra since nothing is more important than enjoying with the person you love.

The best places for Valentine’s Day

If you want to make this year’s Valentine Day unique, we have got a list of elegant dinners, romantic activities and out-of-the-ordinary experiences that will surely make you want to take the selfie of a lifetime. A movie night at a drive-in movie theater Why not go for the classics: a date at a drive-in movie theater, the kind of place that may look vintage but will never go out of style. Movies for the season are usually romantic, which will give you the inspiration you need for showing love to your special someone or for having a date with friends and turning the evening up a notch. The romantic dinner in a hotel Nothing better than enjoying the elegance of the city hotels and the service of the waiters in an unforgettable evening. Recreate the scene of a favorite series and have a perfect culinary experience, accompanied by a bottle of champagne and the music that will take you back to the beautiful era of romanticism. Also, how about getting out of your routine and spending a night at a hotel? At FlowSuites, we have the ideal setting to be alone with your partner. Have you already seen our beautiful facilities? Picnic in Chapultepec Forest This magnificent forest is the best outdoor option if you are looking for an outdoor Valentine’s Day activity. Its trees will embrace you while you enjoy the view of the lake. The park is quite big, so you will be able to find the ideal spot to bring the bottle of wine, the food and maybe some cheeses as a starter. Some love the beauty of simple arrangements. The best view of the city Mexico City will always boast extraordinary views, and what better than declaring your love at the observation deck of the Torre Latinoamericana. This building is one of the most emblematic of the city center and has an observation deck located on the 44th floor from where you can enjoy the best sunset views in the city. There is also a restaurant and cafeteria to enjoy something warm and delicious before ending the day. Drama in the theater Hardly anyone thinks about the theater anymore when it comes to making a good impression. Still, the truth is that a good theater play can make you feel hundreds of emotions; besides, watching people acting in a more intimate space will always be better than watching a movie in a conventional movie theater. We suggest checking the calendar of events around your area, as we are sure you will find some fantastic shows.

How adventurous are you when you travel?

Traveling teaches us new cultures, exotic landscapes, and sensations that we didn’t know we had yet to experience. Since the beginning of time, human beings have always been curious about new places on the planet, and it’s no wonder; every country in the world has its charm, as well as its rivers, forests, and mountains. Perhaps you haven’t considered your personality type when it comes to traveling. Do you think of yourself as an adventure-seeker? Well, you will find out soon enough. Regardless of the miles, the truth is that those who seek adventure can find it anywhere. Each person is a micro-universe. Therefore, when we travel, we also show our most transparent personalities. Some love to plan their next trip, with the most important stops and tourist spots on their list. Some prefer to learn about a region before visiting it to find it easier to move around or find a place to eat. The truth is that even though we love the websites that show us every detail of a place, there are still many who simply prefer to «see what happens» and let themselves be carried away by the people, the culture, and even life itself. The more adventurous ones don’t tend to plan as much. They do a little research, yes, but they are always open-minded to accept whatever comes up at the moment. Adventurous people are less likely to be drawn to the city or museums, preferring instead to explore mountains or whitewater rafting if it’s a place with rivers nearby. Those with this instinct prefer a thrilling and exciting trip with a degree of risk that makes them feel the adrenaline rush. Have you ever seen those explorers on National Geographic? Well, that’s pretty much how we could define an adventurer’s energy. They don’t necessarily have to put themselves in danger. Still, they seek out unconventional activities, such as diving, hiking wilderness trails, or even exploring the more rural areas of a city. For them, it is enough to have a backpack on their shoulder and discover new experiences that very few dare to try. Perhaps, an adventurer can be someone who simply skips the routine and says «yes» to any opportunity that appears in front of him. People may seek different experiences depending on their personalities; they may even feel that they get more out of life. Honestly, we believe that each of us has our idea of fun, and we could even say that there are different types of adventures. Whether you like the traditional approach or you want to find something new to tell, the adventurous spirit kicks in when you decide to visit somewhere new. So, how about you? How many adventures have you had? Remember, if you are looking for a city adventure in Mexico City, we at FlowSuites are experts in making your stay the most memorable one. Book your next trip with us and make it unique.

Did you know that Mexico City is one of the most visited cities in the country? This is no coincidence as it has a privileged location that provides an almost perfect climate throughout the year. In addition, it features attractions that are worth visiting for national and international tourists. If you are planning to visit this great city, here is a list of the best sites that you can visit throughout the year. January – Churrerías el Moro For the winter cold, nothing like a good cup of hot chocolate and some freshly made churros at ‘El Moro’, a churrería with more than 80 years of history that today has become a franchise with locations in the Downtown, South and West of the city. This is a must on your list of places to visit if you come to the city. February – Restaurants in Polanco, Condesa and Downtown If you want to experience a unique Valentine’s Day with your partner, accompanied by the best atmosphere and the best scenarios of the city, try the restaurants in the Polanco, Condesa and Downtown neighborhoods. One of our must-try suggestions is Fairchild 1869, the first Botanical House in Mexico whose menu specializes in mixology and gastronomy based on David Fairchild, a botanical explorer of the last century who introduced more than 200 thousand exotic species of plants and fruits to our continent. Sounds interesting, right? March – San Juan Market The origins of this market date back to the pre-Columbian indigenous markets, which is why it is a place full of tradition and an emblem of Mexico City. There are four markets that are part of the great Mercado de San Juan, which is characterized by offering pre-Hispanic and international food, as well as a diverse variety of food, including poultry, meat and seafood. April – Templo Mayor After so much talk about food, in April we suggest you take one of the must-see tours in Mexico City: the Templo Mayor museum, also located in downtown Mexico City. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Mondays it is closed for maintenance and media attention. May – Chapultepec When we talk about Chapultepec we are not only referring to the four sections of forest nestled in the heart of Mexico City, but also to its zoo that is currently in need of visitors, and the National Museum of History in the impressive Castle. Did you know that it is the only castle in all of the Americas? That’s right, not even the United States can boast of any construction like this. And if that wasn’t enough, the international tourist community, considers Chapultepec Forest as a tourist attraction superior to New York’s Central Park. June – Reforma and its surroundings Since we are on this side of the city, in June we highly recommend a walk along Paseo de la Reforma and admiring the beautiful buildings that have positioned Mexico as the Latin American country with the most skyscrapers, after Panama. Day or night, take the opportunity to take pictures at the Angel of Independence, the Diana Cazadora, as well as in the beautiful flower gardens that adorn this great avenue. July – Six Flags Mexico Mexico City is also known for having one of the best amusement parks in Latin America. Therefore, if you visit the south of the city, visiting Six Flags Mexico is a must; go on the Superman, the Medusa, and many other attractions. Our recommendation is to visit during the first weeks of July to avoid crowds due to the children who are already on vacation. August – Desierto de los Leones Desierto de los Leones National Park in Cuajimalpa is a forest also located south of Mexico City that is characterized for preserving a former convent from the XVII century that belonged to the Carmelitas Descalzos. The place provides a beautiful and vast vegetation, as well as special recreational places for the whole family. September – Bellas Artes We return to downtown Mexico City, making Bellas Artes and its surroundings a must-see destination for the national holidays. Don’t forget that this venue also hosts national and international artists, as well as the Amalia Hernandez Folkloric Ballet. October – Coyoacán Have you ever heard of the Frida Kahlo Museum or Masayoshi Ohira Park? Well, these attractions are located in Coyoacán, a municipality located in the south of the CDMX that is characterized by its history and its center full of businesses, restaurants and a spectacular atmosphere. November – Xochimilco The Day of the Dead is one of the most important dates in Mexico and in cities like Xochimilco, Tláhuac and Milpa Alta the tradition is more palpable. Therefore, we recommend you to visit the Xochimilco lake area where you can enjoy the best experiences in trajineras for tourists and locals And while you are passing through, we recommend you to visit the town of San Andrés Mixquic in the municipality of Tláhuac to appreciate the love that the locals have for their dead. December – Historic Downtown For the year end, how about a tour of the Plaza de la Constitución or Zócalo. Enjoy the great decoration that the city government implements to dress the buildings with Christmas lights. We hope that this 2022 will be different and we can enjoy the attractions that have not been seen for some years. Still, remember that Mexico city is ready to welcome you 365 days a year to enjoy all these places, restaurants and attractions. If you are already convinced that your next vacation should be here, we invite you to make your experience even better by booking at FlowSuites and enjoy our privileged locations that offer an unbeatable location.

Christmas parties: Who to spend it with and how to enjoy it?

One topic that always comes up during December is: who will you spend the holidays with? This question is asked among friends, family, and co-workers. In the end, each decision is unique and personal; however, we can’t help but wonder about the best way to enjoy this season, especially when couples often argue over which family to spend it with. An important consideration is that it is easier to organize a Christmas dinner in a small family nucleus, with just a couple of casseroles and a few glasses of wine. Of course, the more family (they say), the better. Of course, the more people, it is usually more challenging to reach an agreement. But if you are one of those who love the hustle and bustle, go ahead! We have been continuously asking ourselves if spending Christmas with many people is really necessary; because one thing is for sure: not everyone shares the same story or the same family. Some enjoy spending it with just one person, and others enjoy having a full house. They could have a special banquet where everyone brings a dish and have fun with board games or exciting conversations Some couples have family far away and cannot travel either because of work or other commitments. For them, an excellent option is to stay at home and enjoy a romantic Christmas by candlelight and plan a movie night. We believe it is very important to avoid the prejudices that might arise from watching so many movies. Holidays are not only celebrated one way because people don’t behave in the same way. Christmas is a time for giving, yes, but it is not just about selecting the same group of people. We believe that variety is entertaining and interesting, and every year can be different. We encourage you to try something different during this holiday season. Get together with friends you haven’t seen in a long time or spend time with family and the people you choose to love forever.

Try these suggestions to enjoy a different kind of posada

We are finally a few weeks away from celebrating the long-awaited Christmas, and, for Mexicans, the holidays are not only limited to December 24 and 25. If there is a «modern» tradition that we have carried with us for generations, it’s the Winter holidays, and December is famous for its posadas. The posadas are festivities that have been celebrated in Mexico since colonial times. Its origin is religious, representing the pilgrimage of Joseph and Mary on their way to Bethlehem. Curiously, before the arrival of the Spaniards, the Aztecs celebrated the arrival of Huitzilopochtli during the month of «panquetzaliztli» (equivalent to December), and these festivities lasted around 20 days. The fusion between both customs did not take long to occur, and today we have the punch and the songs and moments with our loved ones that are unique and unforgettable. Customs change depending on the generation experiencing them. Therefore, even though we know that posadas are more often held in homes, we love the idea of experimenting and finding new spaces for our posadas, somewhere we can feel in complete harmony. Start by finding a setting that represents you, somewhere you can be yourself and demonstrate all your traditions. Remember that the more amenities available, the better things will work out. In that sense, a private reservation at a restaurant or hotel terrace is a great and intimate way to celebrate your traditions. Why not try something different? That way, this year’s posada will be something to remember. Food is essential. Not only does it bring people together, but it is also a way of showing affection. We have always believed that letting someone cook for you is better than spending all day cooking. Hiring a caterer is simple and offers countless possibilities for all tastes. Don’t forget the dessert! Having something sweet and warm at the end of the dinner will surely bring about stories and good memories. Finally, if you want to try different types of ambiance, after singing the traditional Christmas posada songs, you can play some classical music in the background or even folk songs that remind you of people who are no longer around. If you like more modern music, why not give it a try? In the end, there is no rule for celebrating in our country and, maybe, that is part of its charm.

When to start Christmas shopping?

We know that the holiday mood is already building, the change in the weather is in the air, weekend traffic seems to be heavier, and store windows are already displaying their iconic green and red. We are only a month away from celebrating many people’s favorite holiday, but we have to accept that our urban personality tends to lead us to shop at the last minute. So when is the best time to start your holiday shopping? Honestly, we think there is no perfect date to go shopping, mainly because not everyone has the same disposition and available time. If you usually take care of your money, surely the Black Friday and Cyber Monday season (late November) is perfect for you. Of course, there are disadvantages due to the high demand and overcrowding of people in stores. Therefore, it all depends on your personality. If you have the patience to wait in line, go ahead and anticipate as early as November; but if you prefer to take your time, you might be better off doing otherwise.  You may not know it, but there are certain days to find more affordable prices; in fact, the brands and stores themselves usually launch their promotions, and they typically take place in December. The best advice we can give you is to contact the store directly or check the official website; you will have much more time to select the gifts. Customer service often provides this sort of information. Another issue to consider is the originality of your gifts; for example, there are bazaars specialized in the Christmas season that contain unique items at a reasonable cost. Also, since most things are for children, you can find thousands of original ideas for buying something special for them, such as a vintage dollhouse or a bicycle. The sooner you make your purchase, the better, especially when it comes to finding the perfect gift. Otherwise, you risk buying something that the person may not like or finding high prices if you shop at the last minute. Lastly, we think making a list is an excellent strategy to speed up your shopping and find something nice. Nowadays there are thousands of options to do your shopping: big stores, markets, bazaars, independent stores or, if you prefer, you can always do your shopping online. If you are in Mexico City, we highly suggest you visit the historic center. It is an area where you will find stores and all kinds of gift options; you can also visit some tourist attractions such as the Zocalo, Bellas Artes, the Citadel, or the Templo Mayor.

Concerts return to the city

What’s better than enjoying a good show? Mass concerts have returned to the city, and Mexicans are excited to experience these special moments again. As always, FlowSuites has excellent advice for those who are seeking the best city experience. Here is a list of the most anticipated concerts for the rest of the year. The Kooks – November 16 That’s right. The British indie rock band returns to Mexico to offer one of the best concerts of the year. Originally from Brighton, the band is known for songs like «Naive» and «She Moves in Her Own Way,» which touch our hearts with teen nostalgia and guitar chords. If you are an indie lover and want to spend an evening with your partner, this concert will surely bring out emotions with each song. The date is November 16 at the Teatro Metropólitan. Coca-Cola Flow Fest – November 27th Coca-Cola Flow is ready to rock the stages again in its 2021 edition, especially for those who missed dancing to urban genres at full volume. This year, the festival will feature notable headliners Ozuna and Wisin y Yandel, Jhay Cortez, Farruko, El Alfa, Myke Towers, and Rauw Alejandro, among other personalities. Of course, the genres to dance to will be based on reggaeton and trap with slight tones of pop. If you want to have a day full of energy, don’t miss this unforgettable event that will take place on November 27 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Mon Laferte – December 7th and 8th The Chilean singer who conquered our hearts returns to Mexico to present her latest material, «1940 Carmen», an album unlike any other and focusing on female empowerment, very characteristic of Mon. Both dates are designed for you to sing at the top of your lungs and have a perfect romantic experience in the company of your loved ones. Without a doubt, this is one of the most anticipated concerts, especially for the outpouring of feelings that will surely bring a tear or two to your eyes. Celebrate December with this concert and attend the Teatro Metropólitan on December 7 or 8. Marc Anthony – December 10 Finally, one of the most anticipated events for salsa fans. Marc Anthony will be in town to make us dance until dawn with his colorful and joyful songs. Marc is one of the most outstanding Latin music performers in America. We always welcome his charisma with open arms, especially if he delivers hits to dance with a partner. Prepare your shoes and body because this date will be unique and perfect for you and your loved one. Don’t forget that FlowSuites is your best choice if you are looking for lodging.

Three important celebrations and cultural events you must experience when you travel to Mexico

We believe that one of the most incredible things about being Mexican is that we have so many celebrations a year. We just can’t get enough of the party.  Important dates represent a legacy from our ancestors and an opportunity to spend time with the people close to us. If you are a person who is still not familiar with our culture, we think you will want to travel to Mexico during these dates to experience the majesty of our celebrations: Day of the Dead – November 1 & 2 Very few people have not heard of our famous Day of the Dead. This date is perhaps the one that draws the most attention from travelers because it is a solemn time of year, but with traditions throughout the country. The influence of the Aztec empire can still be felt in different Mexican festivities and traditions, and their respect and love for those who have passed away created the modern Day of the Dead tradition.  We believe that the dead are still among us, and the city is filled with marigold flowers and altars with photos of our deceased loved ones, accompanied by candles and offerings. Paseo de la Reforma comes alive with the fantastic Day of the Dead parade, an event not to be missed if you visit Mexico City at this time of the year. La Guelaguetza – Mid July. The Guelaguetza is a celebration that takes place in the city of Oaxaca that began as a ritual performed for the gods in pre-Hispanic times. At dawn on the first Day of the Guelaguetza, the chirimiteros (music bands) play the mañanitas in various temples of Oaxaca. The local people take it as a signal to go to the emblematic Cerro del Fortin, where the whole celebration occurs. Nowadays, it is a celebration that lasts for days, with plenty of food and drinks and activities for all ages. Las Posadas – Mid to late December Spending Christmas in another country is lovely, especially if it is like in Mexico where, in addition to the traditional dinner, we enjoy previous celebrations such as the posadas. The posadas are a series of festivities that have been held in Mexico since colonial times. The Posadas represent the pilgrimage of Joseph and Mary on their way to Bethlehem. They are religious in nature, but for those who want to enjoy the party, the guava punch, the traditional piñata and the romeritos are the perfect combination for an enjoyable time.
